Track Down Coupons Using Apps

  • Find apps for your cell

We found (eight) money-saving BlackBerry and iPhone apps to help you save on your grocery bill.

Phones other than iPhone and BlackBerry, like Palm Pre and devices with Windows Mobile, also have apps.

See your phone’s app section for options.

The Cellfire app (FREE!) delivers grocery deals to a BlackBerry or iPhone. You can also download coupons to your grocery/drug cards from the Cellfire.com site. (I use both – the online method and the cellphone method). They never text me- in case you’re worried about text fees on your phone. I have not had any text fees.

Search for a local supermarket and choose coupons to download to your grocery store loyalty card. The discounts, (or eCoupons), are deducted from your grocery bill at checkout. Go to Cellfire.com for more information.

  • Compare prices

You’re shopping and see an item you like, but you wonder, does it costs less elsewhere?  With RedLaser ($2) on your iPhone, simply point the phone’s camera at the product bar code. The app scans the bar code and begins to search the web to find the best price.

For phones with Google Android, such as the Motorola Droid, try a similar app called ShopSavvy (FREE!), which is also available for the iPhone.

  • Keep tabs on your grocery bill

With the iPhone Shopper ($1), check off the items on your list as you shop; and you can also input prices to keep track of  your running total.

This app helps you stick to your budget and allows you to customize lists.

SmartShopper ($3) offers the same features for BlackBerry users

  • Budget on the go

Download Mint (FREE!) to your iPhone to manage your money from your cell phone.

Enter checking and savings account information, credit cards, loan and investment information.

Mint then shows your current balances and transactions.

For BlackBerry users, use the Personal Assistant (It’s FREE!) updates and displays all of your financial accounts on one page.

  • Manage your bank account

BlackBerry and iPhone users who are Bank of America customers can use the bank’s free app to pay bills, transfer funds, check balances and to locate their ATMs. Check to see if your bank has one of these programs.

  • Consolidate rewards cards

Try CardStar (It’s also FREE!). Enter your membership card number for more than 350 stores, including CVS, Petco, and Kroger, instead of scanning your card, the cashier scans your phone.

Get it on iPhone. It’s scheduled to arrive shortly for the Google Android and BlackBerry.
